Issued May 2018 in a dark-blue motif, the Nike Air Max 97 Ultra '17 'Obsidian' recreates Christian Tresser's classic shoe for the modern day. Instead of the skinny leather overlays that defined the original design, this contemporary version executes the wavy, bullet train-inspired look with rubberized strips over breathable mesh. The full-length Max Air cushioning unit is carried over from 1997, housed in a white foam midsole and promising a soft ride.
