More lightweight and breathable than its original 1990 iteration, the Nike Air Max 90 Ultra Essential has a primarily black leather and mesh upper, with white plastic overlays on the eyestays and rear panel. The PU midsole doubles as an outsole, dramatically reducing weight while maintaining a cushioned step along with the visible Max Air unit. Underneath, reinforced rubber in high-wear areas adds durability to the outsole.
