When the Air Jordan 11 Low IE debuted in 1996, the revised model featured an upper that differed dramatically from the original. The shoe’s designer, Tinker Hatfield, reasoned that patent leather had no place on a summer shoe. It wasn’t until 2001 that the Air Jordan 11 Low released with a patent leather overlay. This Varsity Red pair was among those introductory colorways, complete with a ballistic mesh upper and translucent rubber outsole.
