The 332nd Fighter Group and 477th Bombardment Group, commonly known as the Tuskegee Airmen, were African-American military pilots who fought in World War II. Despite facing discrimination both in and out of the Army, they became the first African-American aviators in the United States Armed Forces, ultimately flying over 1,500 missions during WWII. To celebrate Black History Month 2005, Nike released a custom collection to honour the Airmen. The pack includes an Air Force 1 Mid, complete with graphics inspired by the decals that adorned the aircraft of the Tuskegee Airmen.
